In addition, it is a well-designed tool for comprehensive monitoring of the carrier’s SMS platform, including both hardware and software parts.

SMS traffic monitoring

The system allows tracking the traffic quality for each customer and vendor.
  • Traffic quality: DLR, DLR Delay, ASR, %EDR with unsuccessful statuses
  • SMS channel status (bound/offline)
  • SMS channel buffer and its overflow
  • Negative margin
It is possible to monitor DLR at the MCC MNC level.

Alaris SMS Platform monitoring

The system provides a range of unique options that allow Alaris users to observe the most critical aspects of the platform.
  • Platform modules: availability, RAM utilization, SWAP utilization
  • General system parameters: message per second, average acknowledgement time, average processing time, ratio and number of requests with response, etc.
  • Client’s specific parameters: traffic absence/decrease, HLR availability/timeout, mail server status, EDR/DLR upload status, SS7 trunk status, etc.
Hardware platform monitoring
The system includes a traditional set of parameters to track the server status:
  • Server resources usage: CPU load, HDD, RAM, SWAP, I/O
  • Servers availability
We use Grafana, an open-source web application that allows to create complex monitoring dashboards and perform analytical calculations based on the collected metrics.

Deep customization

Upon request, Skyward can configure the system to include additional monitoring parameters specific to your traffic or SMS platform that you use. Most thresholds are configurable: you can set an appropriate level of DLR or ASR for different groups or each customer/vendor.

Integration with Alaris

To provide the best possible traffic care, the system monitors a number of parameters that are unique to Alaris solutions. Direct integration with Alaris SMS Platform allows to monitor objects directly from Alaris GUI (e.g. select controlled customers and vendors).

Varied alerting options

The system supports all popular types of alerts: email notifications, instant messages (e.g. Slack or Telegram) or Helpdesk tickets via API. You can receive alerts in the form of a text or a graphic.

Convenient visualization

The system offers several visualization tools including Grafana and Zabbix to better represent data. Any dashboard can be arranged with graphs, charts or tables.

Focus on business parameters
In addition to technical indicators used primarily by NOC engineers, Skyward plans to enhance the system with business data for account managers. This will include information on traffic and margin trends, history of incidents and their influence on the flow. Managers will have a dashboard to monitor the above parameters for their customers and vendors and also track their satisfaction level.

Predictive self-diagnostic technique
The system will analyze SMS traffic to determine repetitive patterns and identify deviations. In case of unexpected changes in flow rate or quality an alarm will go off. The system will diagnose the cause of the alert and will either eliminate the issue automatically or notify the engineer on duty.

Spam and loops detection
Based on machine learning algorithms, the system will analyze SMS text and a series of related parameters in order to proactively determine low-quality SMS traffic just after its distribution. Upon detecting spam, the system will automatically block it or send a notification to a NOC engineer.

User-friendly interface
Adding new objects for monitoring or changing thresholds will not require any special technical skills. Not only engineers but also account managers will be allowed to make necessary changes and set up dashboards for their purposes. The monitoring system, which is now part of the Skyward monitoring service, will be offered as a SaaS solution.
